Kalpana Murthy is a Licensed Professional Counselor and an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Psychotherapist in private practice in Atlanta, GA. She helps adults overcome the negative effects that stressful or traumatic life experiences have on how a person thinks, feels and behaves. She specializes in upsetting events, trauma recovery, early relational trauma, adult children of narcissistic parents, and self-esteem matters.
She has experience helping clients heal from: childhood abuse (emotional, verbal, physical, sexual), not getting enough attention, affection and nurturing in childhood, post-traumatic stress disorder, heartbreak recovery, relationship endings, divorce issues, betrayal, affair recovery, anxiety, depression, grief, anger, emotional abandonment, physical abandonment, career issues, fear of public speaking, and the effects of growing up with a self-absorbed, narcissistic or alcoholic parent.
She helps adults identify and resolve how their past is unconsciously coming into play in their present and causing them to not feel good enough, to feel stuck, or to repeat situations in their career or personal life. Ultimately, she helps her clients find meaning in these experiences and have a more authentic connection with themselves, so they can have a more genuine connection with others.
Kalpana has advanced training in trauma therapy and EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She has also completed a week long intensive trauma training program with Pia Mellody of The Meadows Treatment Center. Pia Mellody’s model addresses problems that grew out of dysfunctional parenting and early relational trauma. This includes co-dependency, boundary problems, self-esteem, control issues, and relationship problems.
EMDR Therapy is an evidenced-based approach to psychotherapy and performance enhancement based on the science of how the brain stores and processes information related to upsetting life experiences including criticism, rejection, humiliation, job loss, relationship endings, emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse and major traumatic events.
